Three local companies feature on a forthcoming current affairs programme – ‘ITV Tonight’ to be shown on Friday 31st October at 8 p.m.

The programme’s reporter is to be Richard Farley formerly of Dragon’s Den and will look at businesses that are surviving and thriving in these difficult and rocky financial times.

Filming started at Certainly Wood Ltd, based near Madley, Hereford, which is now one of the largest firewood producers in the UK specialising in high quality kiln dried firewood. This is particularly well suited for wood burning stoves and is now recommended by most of the major UK stove distributors. The crew filmed the operation from raw material arriving to processing, packing and despatch. Marketing Director Nic Snell said “We are fortunate to be working in what is presently a very strong market as
more and more people move away from a reliance on gas and oil to wood burning which is not only far more cost effective but also a great way to reduce carbon emissions.” He went on to say, “We are now in the process of a major new development to increase storage capacity and install new wood fired kilns to help meet rising demand.”

The crew then went to Dormington to interview Alun and Kate Matthews to discuss the benefits of wood burning stoves in the home. Alun is the owner of the The Efficient Energy Centre in Plough Lane and supplies and fits stoves and boilers.

Filming was completed at Euroheat (Distributors) Ltd at Bishops Frome. Euroheat is one of the countries leading UK distributors specialising in high quality stoves and recently a new range of log, pellet and woodchip boilers. They have also recently opened a new showroom to allow customers to see working models. Director Mike Barber-Starkey added “We are overwhelmed by orders at the moment but coping with demand whereas many manufacturers are quoting lead times of 2-3 months for wood burning stoves”

Editors notes:
1. Certainly Wood was started three years ago by brothers George and Nic Snell and now produces 8,000 tonnes of firewood per annum, specialising in premier kiln dried firewood and kindling along with seasoned logs and log stores.
2. The company supplies locally direct to customers in bulk bags but nationally via a network of over 300 retail outlets packed in small retail packs.
3. All three companies work very closely together to promote the benefits of wood burning stoves and high quality fuel.
