Herefordshire based firewood business, Certainly Wood, co-hosted a HETAS and Stove Industry Alliance meeting to demonstrate the future for high quality fuel production.  The company which is the largest supplier of kiln dried firewood in the country was the first producer in the UK to be approved under the HETAS ‘Quality Assured Fuel’ scheme. The day set out to demonstrate the quality processes involved in firewood production and the importance of the scheme to ensure high quality fuel is delivered to customers every time and to show how biomass fuels can be the solution for a sustainable future. It is also one of the most cost effective ways to reduce CO2 emissions.

The day focused on how the wood is grown and processed. This included a mechanical harvesting demonstration in local Herefordshire woodlands by local contractor Stuart Roberts. The thinning of woodland helps support our indigenous varieties and is an essential part of forestry management. Invited guests, which included many of the country’s major stove manufacturers and distributors were then given a tour of the Certainly Wood production facility to discover how the company produces premier kiln dried firewood and kindling through sustainable energy methods. All the wood waste is used to fuel the large wood fired kilns and 100kw solar panels help provide electricity.

The Certainly Wood team are very proud of their Herefordshire roots and were delighted to host a national event to showcase biomass fuel, which included a display of wood pellets and briquettes from Clifford Jones Timber, another HETAS approved supplier. HETAS is the official body recognised by Government to approve biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, installers and fuels.

Bruce Allen, CEO of HETAS  remarked “ We are delighted to work with Certainly Wood. They are at the forefront of quality fuel supply. They are setting the bar by which we hope many other wood suppliers will want to attain. The forward thinking team at Certainly Wood means we can look forward to further innovations in what is a growing and environmentally sustainable sector.
