Certainly Wood: Sustainability Efforts
At Certainly Wood, we are committed to supporting the global push toward carbon neutrality and minimising our environmental impact. We actively work to reduce our carbon footprint and continuously seek ways to enhance our sustainability practices. On this page, you'll discover what we've achieved so far and our plans for further improvement.
Leading the Way in Sustainable Firewood
Certainly Wood has been at the forefront of sustainable firewood production, pioneering kiln dried logs long before the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme required moisture levels below 20%. Properly dried wood burns more efficiently, generates more heat, and reduces harmful PM2.5 emissions.
Our commitment to responsibly sourced, high-quality firewood has set industry standards and supports cleaner, more sustainable wood burning. As members of the Stove Industry Association (SIA), we actively combat misinformation and advocate for effective, low-carbon wood-burning solutions.
Sustainable Forestry Practices
At Certainly Wood, we prioritise responsible forestry to protect ecosystems, support biodiversity, and benefit local communities. All our firewood comes from sustainably managed woodlands, ensuring long-term forest health. All our firewood is FSC-approved.
We only take thinnings from selected woodlands, a practice that reduces tree density to allow healthier growth for the remaining trees. This careful approach supports both the environment and the quality of our firewood, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
Plant A Tree
Certainly Wood aims to create new woodlands across the UK to help fight climate change. When you order from us, you can choose to plant a tree and support these efforts. In 2024, we planted nearly 2,000 trees!
Be a part of our mission — plant a tree today and make a difference.
Reducing Plastic for a Greener Future
We're committed to minimising plastic use and reducing waste through our Less Plastic Scheme. By reducing the thickness of bulk bags, we've cut plastic use by 1.3 tonnes of plastic annually. Our kindling boxes are now fully plastic-free, saving about 3 tonnes of plastic each year. Additionally, our Flamers packaging is now completely plastic-free, using a compostable cornstarch alternative instead of plastic windows.

Our Commitment to Waste Reduction
At Certainly Wood, we prioritise sustainability by reducing waste and adopting eco-friendly practices. As part of this effort, we collaborate with Wiggly Wigglers to use Bokashi bins — a composting method that ferments all food waste, including meat and dairy, without odor. In our office, this approach turns food waste into nutrient-rich compost, reducing landfill contributions and supporting healthier soil.
Fun fact: You can also add wood ash to your compost for extra nutrients!
Forklifts & Electricity:
If you visit our yard, you'll likely spot Dave on our new electric forklift — a switch from our old diesel ones to reduce emissions and noise pollution.
We've also invested in solar panels, harnessing as much renewable energy as possible to power our operations.
